Course Overview

This course is designed to provide the underpinning skills necessary to successfully understand and deliver all aspects of the work process when handling and recycling waste. Training modules cover:

  1. Safety at Work (legislation, Duty of Care, manual handling, dangerous goods)
  2. Hazards, Risks & Emergencies (hazards identification, risk management, emergency response)
  3. Providing Waste Services (waste material types, receiving, handling, processing)
  4. Site / Vehicle Operations (Site and waste monitoring, traffic control, site maintenance, vehicle operations)
  5. Workplace Communication (methods of communication, giving / receiving instructions, teamwork)
  6. Customer Service (service standards, meeting customer needs, managing aggressive behaviour)
  7. Sustainability & Innovation (environmentally sustainable work practices, workplace innovation)
  8. Course Review

Who should attend?

This course is for people working in recycling, material recovery centres, transfer stations and landfills

Pre-Requisites

Nil

Duration

The maximum term to complete the qualification is 24 months but the program can be completed as soon as the required skill level / competencies are demonstrated.

Training Delivery

  • A comprehensive industry-based, directed learning program supported by off the job facilitated training
  • Training modules scheduled evenly over a period of 12-24 months, at a time agreed with the employer
  • Project activities and training materials specific to the job will be provided to support learning

Funding Assistance

Funding may be available under the Australian Apprenticeships Program and State Government User Choice programs. Eligibility for funding is assessed by an Australian Apprenticeships Centre.
